Still Life with Asparagus

Are you hungry? We continue our special month with the Rijksmuseum's collection with this depiction of ... asparagus.

Coorte produced mostly small, intimate still lifes. Through their simple subjects, such as asparagus or berries, these modest paintings stand out in stark contrast to the sumptuous still lifes that were in fashion at the time. While the aim of those works was to present a superabundance of costly objects and foodstuffs, here attention is focused on the refined rendering of a single vegetable. I would eat it.

Have a calm Sunday!

P.S. You wouldn't believe how often artists painted asparagus! Luckily you can check it out here!  :-D
