Fra Angelico (Angelic Brother) is the nickname of this early Italian Renaissance painter. He was a monk and famous for painting very sweet, pretty Madonnas in balanced, calm architecture. In 1982 was officially beatified by the Catholic Church. He decorated a few cells of St Mark's Convent where he lived - this fresco is one of them.
