Mäda Primavesi was the daughter of the banker and industrialist Otto Primavesi, one of the financial backers of the Wiener Werkstätte, and the actress Eugenia Butschek, whom Klimt painted in 1913. Here, Mäda is 9 years old. She remembered Klimt as a kindly man, who (unlike another painter for whom she sat) understood the nine-year-old's desire to move about and did not insist that she remain absolutely still.
