Gustav Klimt was never married, but as the story goes, his countless affairs left 17 children. Rumors say that he had affairs with Serena Lederer, Adele Bloch-Bauer, Emilie Louise Flöge and Alma Mahler-Werfel -- just to mention the most well known women. Elisabeth Bachofen-Echt, daughter of Serena Lederer, survived the Nazis due to a certificate proving that her father was Gustav Klimt. This was her ticket to survival; she was considered as daughter of the "Aryan" Gustav Klimt and not of August Lederer a Jew.
