Ewa Juszkiewicz is a painter. Her primary interest is the tradition of female portrait; in her work she reinterprets representations of women familiar from history. The Untitled is characteristic of the artist: Juszkiewicz presents her own take on classical paintings, removing the set order and all that we take for granted. On their basis, she builds her own narrative: her own herstory. Her canvases are populated with faceless women – mothers, wives and daughters of famous men. Taking away their very individuality, in a contrary manner, the artist posits a question about the status of women and their role in the history of humanity.
