Berthe Morisot was a friend and sister-in-law of Edouard Manet. She too was a painter. She was on of the three grandes dames of Impressionism alongside two other women artists, Marie Bracquemond and Mary Cassatt. Morisot exhibited with the Impressionists in nearly all the exhibitions; the first of which was held at the studio of the photographer Nadar.
