Hello, hello, today is Skagens Kunstmuseer day! From January 3rd until January 24th every Sunday we present pieces from the fantastic collection of one of our favorite museums in the world - Skagens Kunstmuseer in Denmark. It exhibits an extensive collection of works by members of the colony of Skagen Painters who lived and worked in the area in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Beautiful things. This time, as it is the second time DailyArt and Skagens Kunstmuseer work togherer, we want to present four pieces under the theme "Twilight Hour". Enjoy! “There is a particular atmosphere up in Skagen, which I simply cannot resist. The moment when the beach is bathed in peace and moonlight, I am down there with my sketchbook. Skagen can appear terribly dull in bright sunlight […] But when the sun sets, when the moon rises out of the sea, and the glassy sea is mirrored in the rising moon, the fishermen stand on the beach and the cutters sail off and lie out there with loose sails. In recent years everything I have painted in Skagen has involved this mood.”” - Krøyer, 1907. This is one of Krøyer’s most cherished images and one of ten Danish artworks featured in the upcoming Europeana 280 (online) Collection. From the early 90s Krøyer started mostly depicted the moods of romantic anecdotes, occasionally coloured with a soft and romantic, melancholic touch of bleakness. The mood of several of Krøyer's blue paintings reflects the so-called twilight hour, the “blue hour”, when the sky and the sea appear to merge in a range of blue tones and create the mood of so-called ‘nocturne’. Krøyer got the idea for the painting from seeing the views of the backs of Anna and Marie engaged in intimate conversation after a dinner party in June 1892 at the family’s home in Skagen. After dinner all the evening guests walked down to the beach to enjoy the tranquil summer's evening. -- Since 2012 every day we present one new piece of art to more than 300.000 people all around the world. Now we ask for your help - we want to create new version of DailyArt but we need $15.000 to make it happen. On this website you will find the details and help us with a donation: http://support.getdailyart.com. Thank you!
