Jeanne Hébuterne was a principal subject for Modigliani's art and was his common-law wife. Tragedy interrupted their happy life–Modigliani was suffering from tuberculosis which caused his death in 1920. The day after, Jeanne threw herself out of the fifth-floor apartment window, killing herself and her unborn child.
