Anna Katarina Boberg (1864–1935) was the sixth of seven children. She studied French and for a short time, also painting at the Académie Julian in Paris. In Paris, she also met her future husband, architect Ferdinand Boberg. She started painting in 1887 and had her first exhibition in 1888. Next to painting, she worked with textiles and created scenography. Anna Boberg travelled to Norway and Lofoten for the first time in the summer of 1901. The countryside, the special light, the aurora borealis, and midnight sun deeply impressed the artist. She made over 30 return visits and had a winter nest and a summer house built there. Anna Boberg was a prolific artist and left many paintings. The title of this painting is crucial – what appears at first glance to be Midwinter is, in fact, Spring.
We present today's painting, which belongs to the collection of the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, thanks to Europeana. <3 Just to remind you, we continue our celebrations of Women's History Month. : )
