Polish artist Marcin Maciejowski sees press photographs as his fundamental creative material. He is interested in the absurdity, stereotypes, and banality of media messages. The criticism concealed in this painting has become the painter’s commentary on trends across the contemporary world. As the artist himself explains: “I have always wished for the capacity to paint in a way that would make my works communicative at first glance rather than overly artistic, or incomprehensible."
This painting is in the collection of the ING Polish Art Foundation; we present it thanks to them. : ) Contrary to the painting's humorous message, the Foundation noticed that young people actually want to study and work. This realization led to the launch of Artist: The Professional, an educational project for young artists and art students across Poland. Experts in the field of contemporary art teach them how to get a professional jump start in the art world.
