It's Sunday, so we continue our special month with the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna. :) Enjoy!
The relief is one of the most beautiful sculptures of the Venetian Renaissance and a major work by Tullio Lombardo, the leading sculptor of the city. He thereby invented a new genre of functionless art expressly for private collectors, who were principally interested in antiquities and paintings: idealized portraits of dreamy figures in an antique style and with the format of an easel painting.
Beautiful, isn't it? Have a great end of the week. :)
P.S. Click here to see mythical love stories that have inspired artists throughout the centuries. Now, that's a cozy Sunday read! :).
