Wenzel August Hablik was a painter, graphic artist, architect, designer, and craftsman of the early 20th century, associated with German Expressionism. In his earlier work, he inclined to fantasy areas, adopting cosmological inspirations and stimuli from nature. After he left Bohemia for Germany, his drawings and paintings featured the topic of the end of the old world associated with utopia, which he presented in the remarkable painting Crystal Castle in the Sea in 1914. He adopted the idea of visionary crystal glass structures and was influenced by the texts of Paul Scheerbart, the German author of speculative fiction literature and drawings.
I love this crystal castle; it is so hypnotizing! We present it today thanks to the National Gallery Prague. :)
P.S. Here's all you need to know about German Expressionism. :) Enjoy!
