Today is a special day - it is International Cat Day!
To be honest, for some this day is everyday ;) but on this occasion we have for you this painting of these cute cats. It was painted by Henriëtte Ronner-Knip, a Dutch-Belgian artist best known for her portraits of cats. Her paintings are characterized by their feathery brushstrokes and warm colors, which lend a sense of emotion. She perfectly depicted the texture of fur and blink of the eyes. The depicted animals are often playing or sleeping in domestic, bourgeois interiors, on expensive furniture and sumptuous fabrics.
Ok, I admit that Ronner-Knip also depicted dogs, birds, and many other pets ... but cats are a serious majority of the works. :D
We present today's work thanks to the Rijksmuseum.
P.S. To properly celebrate International Cat Day, we encourage you to see the 15 cutest cats in art history. <3
P.P.S. Do you know where you can find more cats? In our postcards sets! In Women Artists 50 Postcards Sets you will find one of Henriëtte Ronner-Knip works and in Japanese Art 50 Postcards Sets you will find even more cats, as Japanese artists loved to depict them. Check out both sets! :)
