We all know one of the most popular images of all time, The Great Wave off Kanagawa, by the Japanese Master Katsushika Hokusai. But it is not widely known that the artist also created another artwork with a wave, entitled Feminine Wave. So, we present it today!  :)

Feminine Wave also depicts a towering, curling wave. Hokusai was clearly fascinated by the shifting form of water; several of his other works of art depict water and usually his wave paintings manage to capture a dynamic wave in an almost photographic form so that we see every tiny curl.

Hokusai also created a counterpart to Feminine Wave: Masculine Wave, which is also a painting on wood. They are subtly different, with the energy and fight of Masculin Wave transformed into something more peaceful and more accommodating in Feminine Wave.

P.S. Would you like to know more about Hokusai's The Great Wave (it is one of our bestseller prints available in the DailyArt Shop)?
