It is Sunday, so we continue our special month with the Rijksmuseum collection. This amazing museum wouldn't be itself without one of the brightest stars of the Dutch Golden Age: Rembrandt van Rijn. Famous for his self-portraits, here he depicted himself as a 55-year-old (and he still looks at himself candidly), assuming the guise of the Apostle Paul from the Bible. The sword protruding from his cloak and the manuscript in his hands are the apostle’s customary attributes. By using his own face, Rembrandt encouraged the viewer to engage personally with the saint.

The biography of Rembrandt clearly states that he was a bold and courageous artist. We also try to be bold (:D) so we plan to develop a brand new, shiny, amazing, and fantastic version of the DailyArt app. Read more about the project and how can you help by donating. Thank you!

P.S. You must see more famous Rembrandt selfies; there's plenty of them!
