Today is the first day of winter. Time for a real winter scene!

Frederick Childe Hassam was an American Impressionist painter noted for his urban and coastal scenes. Along with Mary Cassatt, Hassam was instrumental in promulgating Impressionism to American collectors, dealers, and museums. Frederick Childe Hassam employed a delicate shroud of pale blue paint, highlighted by splashes of pink and yellow, to evoke the all-encompassing ambiance of a snowy winter day. As the preeminent American Impressionist, Hassam was dedicated to depicting contemporary life with remarkable immediacy. This effect was masterfully achieved through his rapid brushwork and meticulous focus on capturing the fleeting interplay of light.
