And now to the painting we present today. :)  Starting in 1916, Juan Gris found a new fascination in painting figures, leading him on an exciting journey to draw inspiration from the greats of art history. He delved into studying and recreating works by legends like Raphael, Velázquez, Cézanne, and even Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot. The Seated Woman, which presents the artist's wife Josette is a visible nod to Corot's style, especially in the way Gris played with curved and straight lines and the subtle dance of light and shadow. But, there's also a touch of Cézanne in there, particularly in how he used a high viewpoint to give the forms a flattened look and arranged the painting with oblique lines, reminiscent of Cézanne's approach to female portraits.

We must say, Gris was amazing in blending classic art history influences in a modern source! Have a great Saturday!

P.S. Even though this painting combined different inspirations from art history, it's clearly Cubist in style. Can you guess other art movements based on their famous masterpieces? Try for yourself in our quiz
