Time for something suitable for Tuesday: a witch with a black cat.

This painting, created by the English Pre-Raphaelite Evelyn De Morgan, challenges traditional views on women's roles by delving into themes of female empowerment through the lens of sorcery. Unlike many of the artist's earlier pieces, this painting centers on a sorceress, moving away from the typical depictions of Christian or mythological subjects. The figure is adorned in a lavish gold dress, signifying her expertise and the culmination of her journey within the alchemical process towards enlightenment. Her authority is also signified by the presence of well-known alchemy texts on her bookshelf. Positioned in profile, the sorceress commands attention, her gaze intently focused on the potion she crafts, which echoes the hues of her attire, hinting at the potion's significance, perhaps for personal empowerment or affecting the embracing couple seen in the background.
