Hello May!

This small pear tree's twisted trunk and limbs are pronounced against the bright backdrop. Enthralled by the flowering fruit trees of Provence, Van Gogh embarked on creating a series of paintings that captured these trees in full bloom.

Van Gogh deeply appreciated Japanese printmaking, which greatly influenced his work. Spring blossoms were a common theme among Japanese artists, a motif Van Gogh embraced enthusiastically. His adoption of Japanese artistry, however, extended beyond mere subject choice. The structure of his painting, featuring the diminutive tree prominently in the foreground and the elevated perspective, reflects the distinct influence of Japanese aesthetics.

Have a great day today, everyone! :)
