Today, we have a quite mysterious piece for you. We rarely present stained glass—and even more rarely, Gothic stained glass! This fragment represents a female head set between what appear to be molded shafts in an architectural setting. The expressive features of the face have been rendered with an economy of linework and subtle shading. Who was she? A saint maybe? The museum claims that the origins of this piece lay in England. Was this stained glass a part of some church's or cathedral's window? Unfortunately, we don't know. So many mysteries, but what a fantastic piece of art!
