Do you know the Norwegian painter Harald Sohlberg? If not, it is high time to explore his art! Less well known abroad than his contemporary Edvard Munch, Harald Sohlberg is nevertheless the artist behind one of the most loved paintings for generations of Norwegians. His oeuvre unites elements of Romanticism, Naturalism, and Symbolism, always drawing on the Nordic landscape and its vast potential to depict both the earthly and the infinite.
Starting in 1905, Sohlberg and his family, which included several children by then, lived mainly in Kristiania (later Oslo), apart from summer holidays in various coastal towns along the Kristiania Fjord. Landscapes were Sohlberg’s most important source of motifs, and several of his landscapes, including the one we present today, were inspired by these summer holidays.
Beautiful, isn't it?
