1864 • ca.1890
Abigail de Andrade was a Brazilian painter and designer. She started her drawing studies at the Liceu de Artes e Ofícios in Rio de Janeiro in 1882, one year after the decree that allowed women to attend school. A student of cartoonist Angelo Agostini (1843-1910) and photographer and painter Insley Pacheco (1830-1912), Abigail de Andrade painted scenes from Carioca daily life, landscapes, portraits, self portraits and still lifes, as well as drawings.
