Odilon Redon's works are some of the most mysterious in art history. A crying spider with a human face, a balloon with a gigantic eye in the middle, creepy, fantastic creatures - you must admit, it's weird. Even more weird is that he had a very traditional, academic training at Gerome's atelier. Redon called his works "noirs." After 1890 when he became more recognized he stopped painting "noirs" and turned to pastels.
