Tomorrow we will present the last piece from the Twilight Hour series, where for four weeks we have been featured pieces from Skagens Kunstmuseer - so this is high time to announce our next partnership with Indiana University Art Museum :) We will start next month! It will be something very special connected to the museums’ new temporary exhibition. That's all for now, more info will come soon! And as a teaser we have this beautiful Kirchner from museum collection for you, enjoy! Ernst Ludwig Kirchner was the leading member of the Expressionist group Brücke (Bridge), which was active in Dresden from 1905 to 1911, and in Berlin from 1911 to 1913. The Expressionists developed a style characterized by spontaneous brushwork, vivid colors, and direct observation of their surroundings. When painting views of Dresden, Kirchner focused on suburban scenes, and often incorporated nature into the cityscape. In this painting, for example, apartment houses or factories are seen from a vantage point on the Elbe river, which dominates the composition. After World War I, Kirchner reworked many of his paintings from his Dresden period, and it was only then that he added the figure of the boatman who appears in the foreground of this painting.
