Tiziano Vecelli—or Titian as he’s known—lived nearly 90 years, a long time for a man in the 16th century. As the most talented member of the Venetian school at the times, he is recognized mainly for his interest in color—his early paintings are bright are vivid and luminous. His artistic style changed throughout his life. This dark and slightly creepy painting was apparently intended for his own tomb chapel and represents himself and his son Orazio before Jesus. It was his last painting.
