During next month, every Wednesday and Sunday, we will show you an artwork from the database of wartime losses (www.lootedart.gov.pl) conducted by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland. Due to World War II, Poland has lost over 70% of its material cultural heritage.

This painting was purchased from collections of King Stanisław August. In 1797 the work was copied twice in miniature - oval and rectangle by Wincenty Lesser. Jan Nepomucen Żyliński prepared a lithography based on that. The portrait belonged to collections of Zamość Ordinate in Blue Palace in Warsaw (of Zamoyscy). It was lost during World War II. It is possible that it got burned down along with other pieces of art after a German air attack.
