Today begins the New Lunar Year of the Wood Dragon! This year is believed to be able to foster growth, progress, and abundance and this year will be good to build a solid foundation for something new with long-term potential. In Chinese culture, the dragon is related to success, intelligence, and honor, while wood dragons are full of energy and dream of changing the world. So there are some good predictions ahead for us!

The impressive depiction of the dragon on the panel we present today showcases the remarkable craftsmanship of the Ming dynasty's imperial workshops. This fragment of a larger embroidered textile utilizes polychrome silks and two other types of thread. Gold metallic thread is especially prominent in the background, and thread made from peacock feathers wrapped around a silk core is seen in the scales of the dragon.

Happy New Year everyone!  :)
