oil on canvas • 46.5 × 40 cm
  • Johannes Vermeer - 1632 - December 1675 Johannes Vermeer circa 1665

Very little is known about Vermeer. He was completely forgotten about until the end of the XIX century. His works are rare - of the 35 or 36 paintings generally attributed to him, most portray figures in interiors. Vermeer idealized a domestic world occupied mostly by women. He lived and worked in Delft all his life.
