We present you a porcelain urinal, signed "R. Mutt" and titled Fountain. In 1917, Marcel Duchamp submitted this work for the Society of Independent Artists exhibition. Alfred Steigiltz photographed the original Fountain then disposed of it.  In the 1960s, Duchamp commissioned replicas of this classical work of Dadaism which you can now find in various museums throughout the world. Dadaism was an artistic movement, a protest against the bourgeois and World War I, that ignored aesthetics and the authority of “Art with the capital A.” The Dadaist movement spread throughout Europe, and Duchamp was its the most famous artist.
