Camille Monet and a Child

oil on canvas • 55.3 x 64.7 cm
  • Claude Monet - 14 November 1840 - 5 December 1926 Claude Monet 1875

Here you can see Monet's first wife, Camille, together with a child in the garden of their house in Argenteuil, near Paris, where they lived between 1872 and 1877. Today, Claude Monet is primarily known as a landscape painter, but at the beginning of his artistic career, he concentrated mainly on portraits. In the summer of 1875, Monet painted Camille over and over again, often together with their son Jean (as here). At the time they had been married for five years. Today don't forget to wish your mom happy Mother's Day and maybe show her this beautiful Monet painting :)
