Are you ready for tomorrow? I'm definitely not!  :D  Anyways, let's dig in into this joyful world presented in Lucas van Valckenborch's painting (which is also one of the headliners of our paper 2021 calendar).

Lucas van Valckenborch was a Flemish painter, mainly known for his landscapes. He was one of these artists who developed groundbreaking new picture types such as the forest scene and, above all, the winter landscape. Whereas the latter had previously been conceivable only as part of a cycle of the four seasons, Van Valckenborch’s wintry views of Antwerp are pictorial inventions in their own right. Presumably commissioned by a local silk-dealing family, the painting so charmingly presents the narrative details and the falling snow. I could look at it for hours!

P.S. Here's a lot of lovely ice skating in painting! <3
