Kiss By The Window

oil on canvas • 73 x 92 cm
  • Edvard Munch - 12 December 1863 - 23 January 1944 Edvard Munch 1892

Edvard Munch was a hopeless alcoholic who checked himself in and out of various sanatoriums, was never married and was shot in the left hand by one of his mistresses during an attempt to end their affair. Fortunately enough, he painted with his right hand. Munch is most recognized for The Scream, his most famous work with all its intense emotion. This painting shows a different kind of tension, the beauty and mystery of two lovers kissing by the window.
