Rogier van der Weyden was an Early Flemish painter who was successful and internationally famous in his lifetime. He was very popular as a portrait painter and received commissions from the rich and famous of the fifteenth century. The young woman in the painting remains unknown, like most of the facts from van der Weyden's life.
