This piece of art is part of our "DailyArt presents MOCAK collection" project. Twice a week throughout the entire month, we will present pieces of contemporary art from the collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Cracow, Poland. We hope you will like it!

The sculpture 7+1 consists of salt cylinders sitting in concrete containers. The last of these turns independently. The cylinders are made of salt from the Kłodawa salt mine, noted for its brownish impurities, which give each cylinder its individual appearance. The juxtaposition of these characteristics combines to create a richness of symbols, each containing its own opposite. Salt is symbolic of wealth and of everyday utility, but also of bitterness and bad taste; concrete stands for solidity and security, but also for confinement and limitation.
