Throughout his life, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec suffered from various diseases and alcoholism. In one respect, though, he was lucky. His wealthy, aristocratic family supported him, allowing him to devote himself to art and to nightlife pleasures. He depicted the prostitutes, theaters and bars of the decadent side of late-nineteenth-century Paris. Ambassadeurs is a famous poster from 1892 advertising an event performed by the well-known cabaret singer Aristide Bruant.
