Hasui Kawase was a Japanese artist, one of the most prominent print designers of the shin-hanga (new prints) movement, whose artists depicted traditional subjects with a style influenced by Western art. Like earlier prints, Hasui's works were commonly landscapes, but his prints featured everyday scenes and natural lighting.

Kawase worked almost exclusively on landscape and townscape prints based on sketches he made in Tokyo and during travels around Japan, as in the good example we see today. Hasui considered himself a realist and employed his training in Western painting in his compositions.

Beautiful isn't it? So full of the peace we need so much today.

P.S. Kiyohara Yukinobu was a sublime female painter of the Kano School and is one of our latest discoveries in Japanese art. You will love her works, check it out here!
