Today is another day of the amazing partnership with the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium in Brussels. We hope you enjoyed their collection, as much as we do!  :))

Anna Boch, the only woman to have been a member of Les XX (which was a group of twenty Belgian painters, designers, and sculptors, formed in 1883 by the Brussels lawyer, publisher, and entrepreneur Octave Maus), was born into a wealthy family. She was introduced into intellectual circles. Having received a conventional artistic education, a new direction was opened up to her when she discovered plein-air painters. The teachings of the landscape painter Isidore Verheyden led her to lighten her palette and refine her style. She made her artistic debut at the 1884 Brussels Triennial and two years later joined Les XX. Her acquaintance with Théo Van Rysselberghe, who introduced her to the neo-impressionist technique, resulted in her execution of several pointillist paintings. Later, through association with the Fauve trend, her painting became more constructed and her handling of the paint freer. A knowledgeable and bold collector, she acquired works by her contemporaries, notably Van Gogh's The Red Vineyard, the only painting to have been sold during the artist’s lifetime.

Anna Boch is featured in our Weekly DailyArt Calendar for 2022. Check it out here!  :)))

P.S. How many female Impressionists do you know? Here's more than Cassatt and Morisot, check it out!
