In our favorite Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna until January 16th, 2022, you can visit the amazing Titian's Vision of Women exhibition that examines the Venetian image of women in the context of 16th-century ideals and contemporary society. It is full of Titian's amazing portraits, we highly recommend it!  :)

Isabella d’Este (1474–1539) was Marchioness of Mantua and one of the most important art patrons of the Renaissance. Despite her already being 60 years of age when this portrait was created, she is shown as young and beautiful, with elegant dress and hairstyle. In fact, Titian worked from a picture painted 25 years earlier, because Isabella was very sensitive about her appearance and did not like to pose for paintings. Hence, in Titian’s portrait, she is presented in an idealized way—just as she wished to be remembered.

Have a great Wednesday everyone!
