March is Women History Month and as promoting women artists is a part of our mission, this month will be full of masterpieces created by talented women. We start with a lithograph portrait of a Polish artist, created by a Czech artist. Enjoy!  :)

Helena Emingerová integrated graphic art in her work as a prospering painter. She mastered its basic skills in a graphics course taught by Maximilian Dasio in Munich in 1896. She debuted her etchings in the same year, and these earned her recognition as a pioneer in Czech modern graphic art. The nostalgic subtlety of her work done at that time is enhanced by her subsequent focus on the drypoint technique. Even before 1900, she was doing lithographic portraits rendered in masterfully sketched abbreviations, helping to return this technique to artistic graphic art.

Here she depicted Olga Boznańska, one of the best Polish painters of the time, stylistically associated with French impressionism, though she rejected this label.

We present today's work thanks to the National Gallery in Prague.

P.S. Olga Boznańska, depicted in this work, was a successful Polish painter with an uneasy life; here you can find out what happened to her.
