Until June 5, 2022, at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam you can visit the Revolusi! Indonesia Independent exhibition, which offers an international perspective on the struggle for independence of Indonesia from the Dutch Colonial Empire from 1945 to 1949.

This is a very important exhibition, where the royal museum describe how Indonesia threw off Dutch colonial rule. Today we present a portrait of Tanja Dezentjé. She became an Indonesian citizen and one of the envoys who, on behalf of the Indonesian Republic, promoted its independence in the world. In the early months of the revolution, she served that cause as a radio announcer in Yogyakarta, where according to tradition she disseminated pro-Republican messages in both Dutch and French. She also served that cause at the Republic’s ministry of information, which was carefully tuned to the frequency of the international community from the very start. From 1947, she held positions at the foreign ministry and later at the Red Cross. In the struggle for Indonesian independence, Dezentjé became a distinctive feminist voice on the international stage.
