Until May 22nd at the Rembrandthuis in Amsterdam, you can visit an exhibition entitled RAW. In this group show, ten etchings by Rembrandt form the introduction to the work of 13 contemporary artists who present a realistic view of the human body. Yesterday we presented Rembrandt's etching; now time for something contemporary!  :)

For various reasons, all the men in this series of Milan Gies's photographs cannot cope with our achievement-oriented society. They have become homeless, in some cases addicted or sick as well. Gies photographs these men who are largely invisible in our society. The artist is particularly fascinated by "the narrative body." He is concerned with the signs left by traumatic experiences, pain, and mental problems. The key question is: "can you recognize inner struggles and physical pain in a look or the way someone moves?"

P.S. The Rembrandthuis is known for socially relevant and engaging exhibitions, including a beautiful show presenting a de-colonizing gaze on Black sitters by Rembrandt's contemporaries!

P.P.S. Rembrandt's works are perfect to inspire. If you love to be inspired by art and like to write down your thoughts check out our Art Journals in the DailyArt Shop.
