Abraham Mignon or Minjon, was a still life painter. He is known for his flower pieces, still lifes with fruit, still lifes in forests or grottoes, still lifes of game and fish, as well as his garland paintings. On the right-hand side of the plinth, he painted an orange, in clear reference to the Orange-Nassau family, reigning house of the Netherlands. This painting comes from the collection of the Orange-Nassau family. It was hung in Oranienstein Castle in Diez, Germany, in the 18th century.
