Sun in the Afternoon

Time for a bit of Spring and sun!

With rhythmically juxtaposed dashes of color, Eugenie Bandell captures the shimmering play of summer light and shadow in front of the Wilhelmsbad in Hanau. The result is a composition rich in contrast and decidedly modern. The intensive use of color and the systematic brushwork are characteristic of the artist’s work around 1910. During her lifetime, Bandell’s paintings were frequently exhibited in Frankfurt. This makes her, alongside Ottilie Roederstein, one of the city’s most successful artists.

We present this painting thanks to the Städel Museum in Frankfurt.  :)
