Today we start our new partnership with the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen from Rotterdam, which means that for the next four Sundays we will present the masterpieces from their magnificent collection. Enjoy!  :)

Jacoba Berendina van Heemskerck van Beest was a Dutch painter, stained glass designer, and graphic artist who worked in several modern genres. She specialized in landscapes and still-lifes. This composition created by her during the growing popularity of Cubism shows a tree in a forest. In this period, Van Heemskerck was particularly influenced by its visual language and was attracted by the ideas and form world of the Expressionist artist group Der Blaue Reiter. Based on stylistic considerations, this work is dated around 1913.

P.S. Do you know Paula Modersohn-Becker? She was a talented female Expressionist who is today considered one of the pioneers of European modern art.  If you would like to learn more about women artists, please check our selection of postcards with the masterpieces created by them!
