One of our goals in DailyArt is to present forgotten women artists. Today we would like to tell you about Mary Altha Nims, who was an American artist born in 1817 in Vermont. Little is known about her life but she was a skilled Theorem (sometimes known as velvet painting) artist. It was a popular thing in the US at the time as it was taught to women and girls in boarding schools and Art Academies in New England. Today we present a charming drawing by the artist showing a house in Vermont, covered with snow. After Mary's death in 1907, her nephew, R.S Bayham, donated a collection of her work to the Cleveland Museum of Art, authenticating their date and provenance.

How about you - do you draw?  :)

During this Christmas preparation time, please consider donating to the development of our new DailyArt apps. Without them we won't be able to operate much longer, as the ones you use now are simply too old.  :(  Learn how you can help!
