Today we start our new monthly partnership with the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Hope you will love it!  :)

The painting we present today was created by Cesar Pietersz, or Caesar Boëtius van Everdingen, a Dutch Golden Age portrait and history painter who was the older brother of artists Allaert van Everdingen and Jan van Everdingen. The girl with her exotic, broad-brimmed sun hat and suggestively exposed shoulder offers the viewer her basket with fruit: the erotic message is unmistakable. The painting was originally intended to hang high up on the wall, above a door or mantelpiece. This explains why the girl looks down at us.

P.S. If want to know what the Dutch Golden Age was exactly, DailyArt Magazine is here to help you!
