Rembrandt was one of the greatest draftsmen in the history of art. About 1,400 drawings attributed to him survived, and probably at least an equal amount have been lost. In the case of Rembrandt himself, most of his drawings are neither signed nor sketches made in preparation for his prints and paintings, which makes it difficult to consider them as his work.
