Poplars in the Sun

Oil on canvas • 35 x 93 cm
  • Claude Monet - 14 November 1840 - 5 December 1926 Claude Monet 1891

The great Impressionist master Claude Monet produced numerous series in which he revisited the same subjects, varying the lighting, colors, or arrangement in each rendition. He was particularly captivated by a group of poplar trees along the Epte River's left bank, close to his beloved Giverny. He captured their essence multiple times throughout the spring and summer of 1891. This particular piece is unique because of the depiction of three prominent poplars in the foreground, set against a backdrop that vibrates with the lively interplay of the sky's blue, the clouds' white, and the vivid greens and pinks of the trees.

Beautiful, isn't it?
