As you may know, DailyArt was born in Poland. We love to show you amazing Polish art! In addition, because it is a beautiful autumn, it is time for something matching the season. :)
Edward Okuń was a Polish Art Nouveau painter and Freemason. He painted landscapes and portraits, designed covers, and illustrated magazines. His paintings were characterized by sophisticated decor and rich painterly substance.
At some point of his career, Okuń became fascinated by Japanizing aesthetics. In this painting, he introduced “lattices” into his compositions—a network of branches and tree trunks in the foreground, borrowed from Japanese woodcuts, through which a fragment of the background landscape can be glimpsed.
