Today we move to India as we present an illustration of a woman riding a crow!

To be precise, she is not a regular woman: her name is Dhumavati (literally "the smoky one") and she is one of the Mahavidyas, a group of ten Hindu Tantric goddesses. Dhumavati represents the fearsome aspect of Mahadevi and is an embodiment of unfulfilled desire. She is often portrayed as an old, ugly widow, and is associated with things considered inauspicious and unattractive in Hinduism. She is often depicted carrying a winnowing basket on a horseless chariot or riding a crow (an emblem of death), usually in a cremation ground. Here she is depicted with her regular attributes, except for one thing: she is a young woman, which is certainly rare.

Have a great Wednesday (without any unfulfilled desires!).
